Windows-98 OEM/Full Install
EASIEST METHOD (requires Win-98 Emergency Startup disk)

Boot to floppy using your Win-98 Emergency Startup Disk previously created.

When you come to the menu, choose "Start the computer WITHOUT CDROM support". Allow the floppy to run its course, (it takes about 2-3 minutes) and then type FDISK.

Tell FDISK to enable large drive support UNLESS you plan to install another OS such as Windows-NT that does not recognize FAT-32 partitions. (Reboot)

This time choose "Start the computer WITH CDROM support" from the menu.

Type FORMAT C: /U /S

When the format is complete, create a C:\WIN98 directory and copy all files from the WIN98 directory of the Windows-98 CDROM to the C:\WIN98 directory.

Remove the floppy and reboot the computer.

After reboot, you can go ahead and run SETUP from the WIN98 directory.

ALTERNATE METHOD (requires a bootable diskette from DOS or Windows-95)

Boot to floppy using a system diskette containing FORMAT, FDISK and SYS.COM.

Run FDISK. If you see a question about whether you want to enable large drive support, answer YES, UNLESS you plan to install another OS such as Windows-NT that does not recognize FAT-32 partitions. (Reboot)

FORMAT C: /U /S

Install DOS drivers for your CDROM drive (Reboot)

Make a directory (e.g. C:\WIN98 and copy all files from the WIN98 directory of the Windows-98 CDROM to that directory.

Run SETUP from that directory from the command prompt

IF you want FAT-32 support and did not get the screen about whether to enable large drive support, wait until you have created a Windows-98 startup disk and then abort the install, and start over using the first method.

Otherwise proceed with the install.

ALTERNATE METHOD #2 (requires Partition Magic for FAT32 support)

Boot to floppy using a DOS system diskette containing FORMAT, FDISK and SYS.COM.

Run FDISK if a new hard drive, drive needs to be repartitioned, or drive contains FAT32 partitions. (Reboot)

FORMAT C: /U /S

Install DOS drivers for your CDROM drive (Reboot)

Make a directory (e.g. C:\WIN98 and copy all files from the WIN98 directory of the Windows-98 CDROM to that directory.

Run SETUP from that directory from the command prompt

When installation is complete, install and run Partition Magic to convert and resize the partition to FAT32
