Windows-95 Upgrade Installation

Install Windows 3.1 (or 3.11)

BE SURE YOU CAN READ YOUR CDROM DRIVE by inserting a the Windows-95 CD, typing its letter and entering DIR
(if not then put your CDROM install disk in drive A: ,enter INSTALL and reboot when complete)

MAKE A DIRECTORY (e.g. C:\WIN95) for the installation ("cab") files

Copy the entire contents of the WIN95 directory on your CDROM to the C:\WIN95 directory

Run SETUP from the C:\WIN95 directory

When Windows is set up in this way, you won't have to reinsert the Windows-95 CDROM in the future when doing hardware and software upgrades)

ALTERNATE METHOD (clean install)

Boot to floppy using a system diskette (either DOS or Windows-95) containing FORMAT, FDISK and SYS.COM (It can be an Emergency Startup Disk previously created)

Run FDISK if a new hard drive or drive needs to be repartitioned. (Reboot)

FORMAT C: /U /S

Install DOS drivers for your CDROM drive (Reboot)

Make a directory (e.g. C:\WIN95 and copy all files from the WIN95 directory of the Windows-95 CDROM to that directory.

Run SETUP from that directory from the command prompt

You will eventually get an "Upgrade Compliance Check" screen. Insert Disk 1 of your Windows 3.1 (3.11) set when prompted, and you will get an OK to go ahead.
