| THE FIRST STEP is to determine the version of Windows-95. If the copyright date on the CD reads 1981-1995, you've got either an original or 'A' version, and do not have FAT-32 (large drive) support. If you've got A CDROM with a copyright date of 1981-1996 or 1981-1997, you've got one of the OSR-2 versions. THEN, if you are using a system disk created with Windows-95, boot it to make sure of the version on it. If you've got an OSR-2 version, the DOS command VER should return 4.00.950B or 4.00.950C. |

METHOD #1 (if you have an OSR-2 boot disk and are installing an OSR-2 version of Windows-95)
Boot using your system diskette or Win-95 Emergency Startup Disk. The diskette must contain the files FDISK, FORMAT and SYS.COM RUN FDISK. Answer "Y" when asked if you want to enable large drive support UNLESS you plan to install another OS such as Windows-NT that does not recognize FAT-32 partitions. (Reboot) Type FORMAT C: /U /S Install DOS drivers for your CD-ROM drive using the floppy disc supplied with your CD-ROM drive (Reboot) Create a C:\WIN95 directory and copy all files from the WIN95 directory of the Windows-95 CDROM to the C:\WIN95 directory. Remove the floppy and reboot the computer. After reboot, you can go ahead and run SETUP from the WIN95 directory. |

METHOD #2 (if you have a non-OSR-2 boot disk and are installing an OSR-2 version of Windows-95)
Boot using your system diskette or Win-95 Emergency Startup Disk. The diskette must contain the files FDISK, FORMAT and SYS.COM RUN FDISK. Delete any FAT-32 or non-DOS partitions you see. Create a primary bootable partition. IF you wish to enable FAT-32 support, abort the install as soon as you've created an emergency startup disk and start over FROM THE BEGINNING using method #1 |
|
METHOD #3 (You're installing an older version of Windows-95)
Boot using your system diskette or Win-95 Emergency Startup Disk. The diskette must contain the files FDISK, FORMAT and SYS.COM RUN FDISK. In case you are asked whether you want to enable large drive support ANSWER NO.(Reboot) Type FORMAT C: /U /S Install DOS drivers for your CD-ROM drive using the floppy disc supplied with your CD-ROM drive (Reboot) Create a C:\WIN95 directory and copy all files from the WIN95 directory of the Windows-95 CDROM to the C:\WIN95 directory.
